History
1915 | Osaka School of Music was opened by founder Koji Nagai in Shiomachi, Minami-ku, Osaka (present day Minamisemba in Chuo-ku) | 1981 | Reorganization of the Osaka School of Music Senior High School and Research Institute for Music and establishment of the Music Research Center (2 departments, 6 research rooms) |
1926 | Moved to Ajihara-cho in Higashi-ku, Osaka (present day Ajiharahonmachi in Tennoji-ku) | 1989 | The College Opera House (Koji Nagai Memorial Hall) was opened |
1948 | Osaka High School of Music was opened | 1992 | O Building (wind/string/percussion classrooms etc.) was completed |
1951 | Osaka Junior College of Music was established | 1994 | The Student Salon ‘Pause’ was completed |
1954 | Moved to its current location at Shonai-machi Noda, Toyono-gun (present day Shonaisawai-machi in Toyonaka) | 2000 | P Building (Millennium Hall and graduate school laboratories) was completed |
1958 | Osaka High School of Music was renamed Osaka School of Music Senior High School | 2002 | Integration of the Museum of Musical Instruments and Music Research Center and reorganization and establishment as the Museum of Osaka College of Music |
1959 | Osaka Junior College of Music was renamed Osaka College of Music Junior College | 2004 | Jazz and Popular Music programs established at the Junior College |
1966 | Research Institute for Music (currently, The Museum of Osaka College of Music) was opened | 2008 | Osaka College of Music Junior College is certified as a ‘qualified’ institution through a third party evaluation by the Japan Association for College Accreditation |
1967 | Advanced courses established at both the College and Junior College of Music | 2009 | Osaka College of Music is accredited as ‘certified’ through a third party evaluation by the Japan Institution for Higher Education Evaluation The music departments of the Osaka College of Music Junior College are reorganized from 4 majors into 11 courses |
1968 | Graduate program of music was established Osaka College of Music’s Museum of Musical Instruments was opened |
2012 | The music departments of the Osaka College of Music are reorganized into one department New majors for classic guitar, jazz, and electronic organ are established A classic guitar course and dance performance course are created for the Osaka College of Music Junior College |
1980 | K Building (Mizukawa Memorial hall) was completed | 2014 | A piano instruction course is added to the Music Department’s Piano Program at the Osaka College of Music |
2015 | 100th anniversary of the College’s founding |
